WHERE TO STAY

Pick your poison, Taos offers a diversity of experiences, from historic plaza, to cabins in the mountains, or the windswept mesa with endless sky. Our house is centrally located near the plaza. Suggestions below are all within a 20 minute drive.

—On our Block—

Palacio de Marquesa – stumble home to this luxury boutique that honors New Mexico’s famous female artists…a 1 minute walk backwards from our place.

—Near the Plaza—

Historic Taos Inn – ‘the living room of Taos’, and one of our favorite places for live music and a drink. Downtown, walkable to lots of shops, bars, restaurants, and art galleries. It has  a sweet restaurant/bar, and live music almost nightly.

La Fonda – Historic hotel on Taos Plaza with coffee shop, restaurant, and DH Lawrence’s art adorning the walls.

—Around Town—

El Monte Sagrado – It’s where we got engaged! Luxury ‘exotic’ vibes, great spa with an indoor salt water pool and hot tub, restaurant and bar, and it’s walking distance to our house.

Sagebrush Inn – Our go-to place in town for live music (every night), good vibes. If you like two-stepping with country cowboys, this is the place for you.

Desert Flower – a new boutique hotel, southwestern chic, with farm-to-table food.

—On the Mesa—

Hotel Luna Mystica – stay in a vintage trailer under the stars out on the Mesa!

Rent your own Earthship! - experience off-the-grid living, Tatooine-style.

AirBnB & VRBO rentals are very limited within Taos city limits. However, plenty of options are available in the county, 5 minutes minimum drive from the center of town.

treat yourself: adventures & activities

—TAOS—

—TAOS PUEBL0—

Visit The Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO world heritage site, and the longest continuously inhabited structure in the Western Hemisphere.

—RAFTING & KAYAKING—

Raft the legendary Rio Grande River with Far Flung Adventures – choose from a menu of adventures, from whitewater rafting on the Racecourse, standup paddleboarding, or a sunset float.

—MUSEUMS & GALLERIES—

View the work of New Mexico’s artists at the Harwood Museum of Art, from Georgia O’Keefe, Agnes Martin, Dennis Hopper, and various artists brought together by Mabel Dodge Luhan. The Agnes Martin room, designed in collaboration with her friends James Turrell and Donald Judd, is a reason to visit Taos alone.

Historic Ledoux street, birthplace of the Taos Society of Artists, is lined by galleries. Hop across to the Plaza, and surrounding streets, such as Bent Street, or Kit Carson Road, and you’ll get your fill of arts, from established artists of the Southwest, to homegrown emerging talents.

The Mabel Dodge Luhan house, later owned by Dennis Hopper, is home to various works by artists within Dodge’s expansive art world.

—HIKING—

Divisadero and South Boundary Trails - these are the closest to town. They share parking lot and offer expansive views across the Rio Grande Gorge.

Rift Valley Trail – 15 min drive from the plaza – flat trails, great for sunsets

The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge offers walking trails along the rim, with views along the 650’ deep rift valley, and up to the 13,000’ peaks of the Rockies.

Taos Ski Valley has a variety of hikes. Williams lake is our favorite, a 2-hour walk up to a high mountain bowl surrounded by snow-capped peaks. A dip in the ice-cold mountain lake is available to the brave!

—DRIVES—

The Enchanted Circle - 80 mile scenic road through the mountains and high meadows of New Mexico’s Rockies. Start and end in Taos.

—SANTA FE + abiqui—

Georgia O’Keefe Museum - The largest collection of Georgia O’Keefe’s art, just off the Santa Fe Plaza

Loretto Chapel - Historic chapel in central Santa Fe. The spiral staircase remains a living miracle of structural engineering. No one can explain how it stands.

Ten Thousand Waves - Japanesque spa and restaurant halfway up Santa Fe’s Ski Mountain

Ghost Ranch - Georgia O’Keefe’s hideaway deep in the red rocks around Abiqui

Ojo Caliente - legenday spa & natural hot springs

—BEYOND—

The High Road to Taos - Historic mountain road from Santa Fe to Taos, winding through sandy badlands to the high passes of Carson Forest, with settlements from the days of Spanish conquistadors and ancient pueblo towns. Rancho de Chimayo of Sugar Nymphs are worthwhile stops for lunch.

Los Alamos & Jemez Caldera - West of Santa Fe and Southwest of Taos, not far from Abiqui is the Jemez, or Valles Caldera, remnant of a supervolcano explosion. On the high plateau sits Los Alamos, the insta-town built for the Manhattan Project to develop nuclear technology in 1940s’. Over the ridge is the caldera itself, where wild elk herds roam in a verdent moonscape. The foothills are home to many natural hot springs in the Jemez area, and ancient 11,000 year old Anestral Pueblo dwellings such as Bandelier. Plenty of camping available.

Great Sand Dunes National Park - Just North of Taos, over the Colorado border, are the great sand dunes that sit at the foot of the Rockies. Hardest hike you’ll ever do…but worth it if you’re into sandboarding.

we can’t wait to celebrate with you at our home
